Up at the Lakes Arnolds Park in June. Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg in August, Popcorn Days in Schaller in July, Harcourt in August, Glenwood in July. And SYC in Sioux Rapids in August....Just to name a few that I know of. I dont know the exact dates to all of them but most.
Another contest to consider, though not a true "back yard" type is Frostbusters in Colo, Iowa April 18th and 19th. It is run like a regular KCBS but after the blind judging then the teams can go and talk to the judges to see why they scored the way they did. It is an inexpensive entry $50, no prize money but great goodie bags. Smokehouse 72( fellow Brethren BBQ Mayor and Shotgun) is who puts that contest on and it is a great learning experience. The team that finished DAL last year learned enough that they went up to Wild Rose contest in August and won GC and over 2k,I think they were happy they did Frostbusters.
