Humphrey's Wounded Warrior Battle Box uncrating
Proud to say I just took delivery of my new Humphrey's Wounded Warrior Battle Box, my first foray into vertical reverse flow box smokers. I had previously been a ceramic kamado guy with some experience on a wonderful Deep South GC 36 gravity Feed smoker. I must say pictures on Humphrey's web site do not do this color scheme justice, in person the colors just pop. The Desert haze has just a touch of metal flake in it and in the sun it really stands out against the flat black finish. Added bonus Humphrey's will donate 10% of all wounded warrior sales to project wounded warrior from Feb 1 until Veterans day this year. I've only managed one cook on this baby so far a rack of St. Louis style ribs and some Chicken breasts for fajita bowls. Friday is a nice big prime Brisket from Costco.
My BBQ teammate, neighbor and blogger, nibblemethis, captured the uncrating of this new smoker on his blog, here's the link. Check it out it may help answer some questions about their wonderful smokers. http://www.nibblemethis.com/2018/04/...attle-box.html |

Love that color scheme. I got a D.E.B. One thing you want to do is make sure you occasionally turn those probe cover nuts. I only use one of the two I have and the one I don't use ended up needing channel locks used to open and I dinked up the paint. doing it.

She's a beaut! If I ever need another smoker, I think Humphrey's will be it. They're as close to a neighboring manufacturer as I could hope for, and my FIL owns a cabin about 5 minutes from there.

Thanks ya'll. I'll be doing a full prime brisket this Friday. Son and his family coming to town for a soccer tournament so probably no posting of that cook until next week. I looked at a lot of smokers before selecting this one, 270, stumps, backwoods, deep south, southern Q, Humphrey's (obviously) and more. Bang for the buck, overall construction and customer service reputation pushed me towards Humphrey's, freight quote for lift gate delivery was not that bad so landed the unit was just a bit above $2K. The smoker it self does include some extra features that Humphrey's throws in for free. I think the uncharge for the WW unit is just the extra cost of the 4-8" wheels. Probe ports, my slide out water pan were free added extra's.
Only 2 fires in it so far, the seasoning run and the rib/chicken cook but this thing is a miser on fuel I would expect easily 10+ hours at 290 pit temp. Getting this unit in my hands and seeing the quality of construction and how sweet it runs makes me one very happy camper. The color combo far exceeded my expectations. I chose this size because I didn't want o feel guilty firing it up and only cooking 1 meat on it. My neighbor has a big Deep South GC 36 gravity cooker that I can access if I need really big quantities cooked. If not for that I probably would have sprung for the pint. But realistically I am confident I could cook 3 big briskets or 6 racks (more with creative loading) of ribs or 4-6 pork butts (depending on size) on this thing at one time. Thats still a lot of food. |
