I have the ash pan and turkey hanger. Used them both on Saturday, the 7th, for the first time. They work just fine.

With regards to the turkey hanger....JMO but I'd rather hang spatchcock just so they cook faster and more even. Sure a whole bird might look better for presentation purposes but a filleted bird should cook better, faster.

If I was doing the Norman Rockwell birds though they would be hung whole...can't wait to see some good hung turkeys! Gobble gobble!

Honestly no difference whether spatchcocked or hung whole other than it cooking a little faster like you said Keith. I've done them either way in the PBC and they came out great.

First turkey ever in the PBC. Compliments of my neighbor which was perfect timing ahead of Tday '13 for me to give it a shot and see how it would come out. Ahh my rookie PBC days with the v1 PBC

I hung a small brisket with it.

The skin was awesomely crispy

The simultaneous brisket (extra pron because we love it)

Then came Tday '13 for no other reason other than my love for experimenting I spatchcocked it.

While garnishing it

I took it to a friends house where they had also made an oven roasted turkey and mine DISAPPEARED in 5 mins. I kid you not literally 5 mins. I kept getting praises on how it was the best turkey everyone had.

I don't blame them because the turkey was moist, succulent and smoky. Nice little smoke ring also.

Either way it will be a hit. Go with whichever way you feel confident or comfortable. You'll be surprised.

I'm gonna have to experiment with cooking a PBC turkey. But not for thanksgiving. Thanksgiving I have to get back to my roots and do the Cajun fried turkey. Even though I use the oiless fryer it tastes just as good as the 3 gallons of peanut oil fried turkeys.

I have a turkey still manufacturer vac-sealed that ended up being an extra one from last Christmas. I was thinking of cooking it on the PBC and taking it to work. Anyone see any issues with it being nearly a year old. It's been in the deep freezer the whole time.

Cool, thanks Sako. I've seen a couple of his videos but if he's your favorite I will probably look for more.

Those turkeys he cooked looked great!

Sako your bird looks a hundred times better than that one in the video...that one looks bland, chewy and under cooked while yours looks deep dark, rich and good skin. The look test yours gets an A and the video one a D-

i cant stand this anymore. i want to have some fun already.

do they have a sale on black friday? if not ill just order it tonight and be done with it.

ill do a full load of charcoal with no food inside to burn off any oils or scents/smells or whatever from the factory. ill use that time to get the vent dialed in to 275 plus or minus temps consistently.

after burn off and temp control completed im cooking a practice turkey the next day.

then ill cook a second one for thanksgiving. the real one.

its always oven turkey for me but not this year.

I don't think they do a black Friday sale. Actually the only discount I've ever heard of was when they were relatively new and you could get a $100 off code from Kingsford. But that's been a few years since that happened. I'd just go ahead and order one.

There's no need to do a burn out. I think they clean them first or something because the company says they are ready to cook out of the box. And cook straight outta the box I did! Just do your practice turkey without a burnout.

You are a tough critic and I love it. Honestly, I expected the best from Greg and watched the video after I posted the link on the brethren. It was more of an advertisement for the the turkey hanger than anything it seems like. His old videos rock though. Dig deep.
