Independence Day BBQ at the Starchief Diner
Howdy folks...
Last weekend my Team and i were cooking a "All you can eat Buffet" for an American Diner in Gelsenkirchen, about 200 miles from my place. The diner was celebrating an "Independence Day BBQ" and meeting of classic cars. We had a mighty good time, lots of BBQ and beers, met nice people and showed some real BBQ to the folks. Usually "American BBQ" at a restaurant in germany still means boiled ribs charred over a gasgrill and then slathered with liquid smoke loaded sauce. Off course we decided to show the real thing as close as we could make it. Here we go : Arrived at the diner on friday at the late afternoon, quickly unloaded the Excel and Outlaw off my Trailer and had a couple of beers. Off course we had to test the Diners food Heres some inside shots (everyone was sitting outside enjoying the weather) After a couple cold ones we went inside the very nice kitchen and started preparing some of the foods, especially wings, butts, briskets and pork loins. The rest was prepared the next morning Fired up the CG Outlaw for some late night steak snacks and the Excel for the first load of pulled pork Heres my friend Caruso feeding the meat to me :D Pork on the Excel Somehow Caruso understood the " lets throw the pork on the excel" wrong... And heres my place for the night. A warm clear night. BBQ, hickory Smoke, apple cider and a hammock. What more can you ask for ? Early next morning Breakfast Chorizos |

Note to self : Never ever put a grill brush on the firebox again...
Butts are looking good We started setting up the rest of the grills And went into the kitchen to prep the rest of the food. When we pulled the Ribs out of the cool storage we almost puket. 100 pounds of Baby Backs had turned bad (or were delivered that way), they had a real bad odor and were slimy. We were lucky to get a new, fresh load of 80 pounds in a short time, though. We made about 180 ABT´s The Buffet started at 2 pm and lasted til 10 pm, with people around all the time. It was a lot of work but also great fun. I wasnt able to shoot too many pics during that time, though. Heres our new Team Banner wich me made as a gift to our ( Beer and foil loving) Team Sponsor "TB" . We also had that one printed to the back of our new polo shirts and gave on of those and a framed print to TB. It was made by Patrick Carlson of http://www.bbqlogos.com/ Off course there were dozens of nice cars around, heres a few of those. You dont get to see something like that too often over here. [img] Finally, heres some fun with pineapples I wish every weekend could be like that, its gonna be hard for us to beat this. Cheers, DM |

That all looks great. I LOVE the interior of the diner, and it's cool to see American iron in the parking lot.

Really impressive cook! Food looks great and it looks like a lot of people were introduced to some real BBQ.
I may have to re-evaluate just how difficult my three butts and a brisket cook really was now that I have seen this.
