Default Brisket flat $$$

Went to Costco to get my first brisket and all they had were choice flats for 6.99/lb. 😱

Ended up with NY strips for just a couple dollars more and had a great dinner with just 1 hour at the cooker - Weber grill for this quick reverse sear cook.

Great dinner but was looking forward to my first brisket.... oh well, there will be another time.

6.99/lb just seams outrageous for a flat... is that normal?

And here are a few picks of the steaks - each one was ~1.5# and 2 inches thick. Used the Weber bourbon and brown sugar rub and served with mushrooms, baby red potatoes and corn...

Steak looks spot on! Yeah that's expensive for flat. I have the same problem where I live. Not uncommon to see the whole packers for $60+ but once in a while my costco has a good deal. Just have to keep your eye open and stock up when they're cheap.

Brisket used to to be a cheap cut of meat, but it's in vogue now and commands premium prices.

My Costco only carried the 6.99 flats for years. Just the over day they had the flats right next to the prime packers. 6.99 vs 3.69. WTF

That's what I don't understand. Are people willing to pay a premium to avoid cutting off the point? I'm sure there is a reason

Do not buy that Costco ripoff flat - go to a Walmart and find a floppy 12-17 pound packer for $2.99 -the flat sucks and is a ripoff at $6.99.
I laugh when i see them, what fools buy this crap?

Saw whole packets at the local grocer for 4.99/lb.... may try that at some point but will wait to see if there is a sale in the near future

I wish they would sell the damn point by itself. I would never pay $6.99/lb but i would pay more the packer price to have just the point.

I found that my local Albertsons sells just the point, (choice trimmed) is $3.99lb everyday, and on sale 2.99lb, I just wish they wouldn't trim them.

It's kind of weird that brisket prices can very so much by location, a good price for choice packers here is $1.99lb, average is about 2.99lb though.

Kroger Choice packers on sale @ $1.67 here for 4th. My chest freezer is happy now.
At $1.67, I split the points off of several flats to cook as extra points the next time I cook brisket, just for burnt ends.
Good call on the switch to the steaks.

If they could just breed a cow with multiple briskets--like an octocow

The second on the right is most tender I'm told.
