I just read a post about a BBQ sauce contest. Is this common? I would love to send in my rub and sauce for a contest!! If anyone has any details I would love to know more!

I'm sure others will have better info, but the American Royal is the only one that I know about that allows sauce makers to send in entries. A lot of local competitions have a sauce category however, but those require you to be present.

It sounds like you are looking for commercial product contests for the food business, not BBQ contests. There are plenty of such events sponsored by state government, industry associations, ag extensions etc.

As an organizer of BBQ Contest events, I can tell you that there is nothing I would rather NOT have at an event than an open sauce contest where bottles are shipped in from far and wide. There is nothing in it for the sponsors or participants at the festival and the logistics of doing such a thing at a festival would be a nightmare.
