While I wish that everything was made in America, the reality is that anymore, most of it is not. This subject has been debated numerous times on the PK grill fanatics group on Facebook since the classic PK is made in the US while the 360 is made in China.

I have both the classic and the 360 and the 360 is on par or even better in quality to the classic. There have actually been more problems coming up with the US made classic than the 360 from the posts in that group.

I think it comes down to the specs and quality of materials that the company requests and to have good enough quality control to make sure these things are being followed as to whether or not you are going to get a quality product out of China or any other foreign country.

I agree that they shouldn't be charging the same prices for their product if made overseas with what I assume is cheaper labor and cost of materials but I know that most companies main concern is making as much money as they can so I don't expect any price drops.

If they were smart they would, lower prices would bring in more sales.

He didn't say what you are referring to, only that the cheaper cost to manufacture in China will result in a higher profit margin. How about a positive post from you instead of this kind, it's annoying to say the least.

For me it's an opportunity. Although I have more than enough smokers, a pellet pooper is on my wish list.

Made in USA stuff exported to Australia is nosebleed expensive. If I can get a Chinese made one, the consolidated shipping and manufacturing cost reduction could put it in my price bracket.

You have to consider that American BBQ is taking off all over the world and it just makes sense to make things in China to service global demand.

Issues regarding quality will always be there but I'm not going to get a US made one anyway. Having travelled extensively in China and having been to manufacturing facilities of many different kinds I can tell you that they can make anything as good as what you can do in the US... it's just a matter of price. The Chinese are extremely practical in that regard. You want cheap... You get cheap. You want quality... you pay the money. Quite often companies coming to China don't understand that at first. They just expect everything to be cheap and then the product arrives and they see it's built down to the price they wanted, not the quality they expected.

I hope Memphis Grills are aware of this. If they are, I'd love to get one from a dealer here one day.

Mind you, if I lived in the US I'd be buying something else for sure.

Same sentiment. Almost went Memphis a couple years ago, but now have another reason to be glad about getting a MAK instead.

I see you’re only a couple hours north of me... and we’re fellow MAK owners :)

How long have you had your MAK? 1 or 2 Star? I see you also have a Summit. Does it see much use? I really like what I see in the Summit line :)
