Default Peanut oil or what?

Is peanut oil the best for seasoning a pit and wiping your grates before cooking?

Can another oil do as well?

Will any oil with a high smoke point accomplish these tasks or is there something special about peanut oil?

I'm getting a PitMaker Safe and a PitMaker Grill Meister next month. They are both raw plate steel. I am assuming I will need to season them both?

It seems that peanut oil it is all I read about in the various forums.

I always use crisco shortening if it works on my CI it's good enough for my pit.

I hit mine with Pam for grills and ran a couple hours of mesquite smoke through it. Maybe not the best way, but it was easy to apply and seemed to do the job.

I wouldn't use peanut oil simply because of the cost. I save that for frying. Anyone of the suggestions above is a much cheaper alternative.

Some folks have peanut allergies, otherwise I'd use it. I've used vegetable oil and I've used lard (melted).
