How is an insulated firebox typically designed on an offset smoker? Are most double walled steel that use air as insulation? If so, is thicker steel typically used on the interior wall?

I've used and still do firebricks. There is rockwool type insulation and several others. Air is not as efficient as using something in the space.

Kaowool blanket. Good to 2300 degrees.
