Wow! Bought a LANG 100!!! Pics, pics, and more pics!
I'll never forget October 22, 2011. Loaded up the wife and kids, and drove a few hours to the Jack Daniels Invitational in Lynchburg, TN. It was about lunch time and the first thing I wanted to do was eat at Myron Mixon's vending booth. After lunch, we headed over to Myron Mixon's competition rig. Met him and got my book signed (Smokin' with Myron Mixon). Hung out for a while and talked SEC football. He's a great guy, very friendly and outgoing. Pictured below is my family with Myron. Few minutes later, I noticed the Big Bob Gibson's tent and figured I'd meet another BBQ icon. As some of you already know, I'm very new to BBQ, and just started this year. My 40th birthday is coming up in the spring and thought that I might treat myself to a nice smoker. After a lot of research, I decided I wanted a Lang. I've been watching Ben Lang videos on youtube for months now and some of the guys here make fun of me, calling me "Lang Boy". Well, as I continue walking around The Jack, I saw a Lang company display! I froze for a second, looked at my wife, and she said "Uh oh." The Lang rep had a customer, so I stroll around, checking out the models. They had 36" patios and an 84" monster. I turned to my wife and said "I would just DIE if Ben Lang was here." I turned around........and there he stood. Shook Ben Lang's hand and the conversion ensued. Explained to him what I'd like to do with a cooker and I was debating between a 48 or 60. He said "From what you just told me, a 60 will do exactly what you want." I said "I don't see one here for sale, looks like 36's and an 84." Ben said "I brought a cooker for one of the teams to compete with today. It's a Model 60" Deluxe trailer w/warming box and 40" longneck chargrill on the front. We also put stainless steel grates in the whole rig. When the team gets done cooking on it, she's for sale." Ben made me a deal that no one in their right mind would turn down. Looked him in the eyes and said those sweet words: "I'll take it." Model 60" Deluxe trailer w/warming box, 40" longneck chargrill and stainless racks in the whole rig. With 60 + 40, I just call it a Lang 100. There were 89 teams at The Jack. The team that cooked on my Lang is from Washington State and they call themselves Smokeys BBQ. They took 3rd in brisket (Myron placed 75th). They missed 1st place in brisket by a half of a point. Overall, Smokey's placed 22nd (Myron placed 65th). I fired up my Lang for the first time this weekend. My kids wanted to have a cookout and invite a few friends. I couldn't possibly say no. I cooked 4 whole chickens, baked taters, burgers and dogs in the chargrill. I did 4 racks of ribs, pan of beans, a butt, and veggies in the smoker. Best BBQ I've ever cooked! I'd like to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to the good Lord above for blessing me so much. I have a wonderful wife that supported my decision to buy a nice cooker. My kids are now able to invite friends over and share good times and great food. Last, but definitely not least, I want to thank each of you on this forum. You guys have helped me many times and I look forward to expanding my BBQ-IQ with my new Lang!
