Default Hello from Indiana

So I'm new to the forums, just started lurking this week as I want to enter my first competition next year and was told this was the place to get some great information.

So far, yes I've found everything I've looked at very helpful!!!

About me, I'm a medically retired combat veteran of 17 years and started smoking on an Ugly Drum that my brother made for me about ten years ago. I've had nothing but good food off of that thing and my wife just got me a Char Griller Legacy with the side fire box so that I could smoke with it as well. I got it last Monday and have already smoked nearly 80 pounds of meat on it.

I've cooked for the past two years at my daughters college in Franklin Indiana for the Touchdown Club doing my smoked beans and helped on the grill for burgers and Brats. I have enjoyed cooking and grilling for a very long time and enjoy cooking for other people. The UDS is great for my family and small backyard cooks and it's great.

So this weekend we are heading to our first BBQ comp to check it out, and then Sunday I'm smoking my first brisket. While building two more UDS' go me!

Welcome to the brethren, OEF5. Glad you found us. This IS the place for anything cooking outdoors, so you will definitely find any info you seek here. It sounds as if you already have a lot of cooking experience, so you may be sharing knowledge right off the bat. Enjoy yourself at the comp, and try to talk to some of the teams. Unless it is crunch time for turn-ins, most will make time to talk to an aspiring comp cook. Looking forward to your posts.
