Default UDS on the deck Question

I gotten to the point that I prefer to do all my smoking on my UDS but being in Washington it rains quite a bit and the only covered space I have is my wood deck. This is not a problem with my other smoker or my grills because they are up off the ground, I was wondering if I could just put cinder blocks under my UDS to get it up off the deck or if this was a bad idea or if anybody had a better ideas?

Cinder blocks would work fine if you have them on hand. You don't, however, need anything that large. If you are scouting now, three regular bricks will be more than adequate.

If you have a deck, you most likely have a house. If you have a house, the odds are that you are married. Keeping the Mrs. happy is job numero uno. Leaving grease drips on her back deck will land you in the doghouse. (Don't ask.)

Get a driveway drip pan from an auto parts store and put it under the UDS/brick combo. Any drips are caught by the pan, preventing you from catching H-E-double toothpicks from Momma.

I just use 4 bricks under the bottom lip. My drum really doesn't get that hot on the bottom. During a long cook @ 250 I can put my hand on it.

Your drum is not naturally aspirated?

I use 3 paver blocks to keep the UDS off the deck.

Added three of these last weekend. So far so good. My deck is kinda small, so being able to move it around has been really nice!
