Default Oakridge BBQ Crucible Rub

My local bbq store finally got some of the new batch in and just had to grab a bag . How is it compared to the HDD and just like some insight on the heat difference and hope to be trying out soon .

Hotter, but more flavorful, IMO. I like it...

I'm actually in the opposite camp. I don't think it has as much flavor as HDD, but is hotter by a decent margin.

I REALLY like to use it as an add-in to pulled pork AFTER it's been pulled/chopped for those that like real spice. That way I get the same flavor profile for BOTH hot and mild.

Now the scorpion rub? THAT was a big pile of flavor and heat. LOL!

I use it stand alone, and with some Valentina hot sauce as well on some. To me it has a fruity aftertone, more so than the HDD. For myself, I will layer both, but not many pepoerheads in my group, so not often...

Well i just tried it and it is very hot , lol . My wife is not going to be happy and will have to use very sparingly but maybe it will loose some heat during the cook .

It's definitely a couple levels hotter than HDD, in my opinion. I like hotter food than most people but it's at the top of my comfort level in its "uncut" form (aka not layered with another rub). Maybe for some the heat overwhelms the palette and seems less flavorful? I agree on the fruity after tones. I've only used it on wings so far and did not mix it with anything else. There was definitely some endorphin release from the heat and my sinuses were CLEARED

LOL, you guys crack me up! That Scorpion rub was STUPID hot. Like trying to eat a cactus that was lit on fire first... And the day after.... Flamethrower.

I cooked some wings with Crucible on the CTO this past weekend. Definitely hotter than the HDD wings, with a milder, citrus flavor. For more flavor, try dusting with a little more Crucible after cooking has finished, like a finishing dust. It helps enhance some of the more fragile flavors that are lost during cooking. I also really like it as a pizza sprinkle, especially on Hawaiian pizza.

But, it had a great southwest flavor to it. Speaking of..... I believe you're missing a southwest type rub in the arsenal. Hmmmmmmmm…….

Also....no chili mix. I don't trust many, but I trust you to make a decent quick mix for those that can't make a decent bowl of red to save their lives.

I have something I've been working on for a couple years now... The last test batch of chili was really close to the quality and full flavor I demand. We'll see...

Nope. I use that jammy all the time on ALL SORTS of stuff, but it ain't the flavor I'm thinking of right now.

The reason I enjoyed the scorpion so much that I endured the butt burning fire is the AWESOME flavor. I'm a pretty big fan of pasilla chiles and I THINK it had them in there along with chipotle. Heck, take out the scorpion and add cumin and some chile de arbol and we may be almost there with the rest of what was in that rub. Again...….I loved me some butt burning scorpion rub!!

I can definitely see how you'd think that though.

Also...…… YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To hearing there's a chili mix in the works!!!!
