Default Vacuum packers/sous vide

I'm looking to invest in two things soon. I'm looking for a really good vacuum packer and a really good sous vide cooker.

The Gourmia sous vide my daughter does an ok job, but is a pain in the butt to use. The controls are awful. The Food Saver vacuum packer is ok, but I want something better.

What's out there, folks? Any suggestions on either?

I have a vacmaster vp112s and I love it. I agree the gourmia controls are horrible but I like the fact that it’s 1100 Watts and can heat a lot of water.

Anova or Joule, I have a 1st gen Anova and it's all I need. Has performed great over several years. Can't rec a food saver, I have a cheap one and am looking to upgrade in that area soon.

I have two different FoodSavers (expensive = vertical, cheap = horizontal). I actually prefer the cheaper one. However if I had unlimited space I'd go with a Vacmaster. Higher initial buy in but cheaper bags and you can vacusuck liquids and do some interesting tricks to fruit with it.

Best vac sealer is going to be a pricey chamber style. Sorry I can’t recommend a specific one.

I still think the Anova units are the all around best SV machines, but for specific circumstances, others might get the nod.

I've used an anova SV for about 2 years with no issues. You can almost always find it for $99. I don't buy into WiFi and extra bells and whistles.

I have a real cheap food saver, I think it was a refurb off of woot for $10. Works good enough. I rarely use it for SV, just storing steaks or other meat from Costco. If I were to upgrade I'd go for a chamber vac for around $500 that allows more interesting usee

You missed prime day, they had deals on both items.

I have an inexpensive Nesco vac sealer. It's a horizontal and I paid $40. I've never done sous vide method but the vacuum sealer is still going like a champ after 4yrs of extensive use.

The Anova is very simple to use . Plug in set the temp. Mine failed 4 months later. Shipped it back for a replacement.

The Joule has more power and is a pain to use. Its controlled by an app . I spend more time trying to get it to turn on that I usually just unplug it and use the Anova.

VacMaster vp112 has served us well since about 2010. That's after I destroyed 3 sealers of the sucking kind. I have not used the Anova or the Joule, but they both appear to deliver superior value. More inclined towards the Anova because it has the option of using manual controls. SV tends to be set and forget in our house.

Ditto on the Anova and if you got bucks to spend go with a Vacmaster chamber sealer you wont be sorry.
