Question lang 60 question

when i power wash my lang, i clean the greats and the hot plate underneath it and it all comes out the drain. this time i thought i would powerwash the heat tunnell by the fire box and what a mess that turned out to be. the crude and water backwashed into the firebox. that said, is it supossed to do that or is the water supossed to go out the drain. does anybody wash the inside of their lang like that?
