After nearly 6 months of an agonizing wait, my new pit has finally arrived. Prior to that, I spent months deciding on, first reverse vs traditional flow and then manufacturer. There are so many great makers out there, it was a very difficult choice to make. After a certain level, build quality across the different makers is almost identical.

In the end, I chose the Lone Star Grillz 24 x 48 horizontal offset with a few modifications:
  • Single door with counter-weight
  • 3 grate level thermometers
  • Split upper shelf for in-smoker storage
  • Various other smaller features

To accommodate my new pit, I had a small patio built next to the house and had to take out a section of fence to get it into place. The bill of lading listed the total delivery at 1,360 lbs and watching the delivery guy bring it down my neighbors' driveway was a heart stopping experience. (My wife face-timed me on her phone while she was at home and I was at work. Of course, the delivery company brought it on the wrong day!)

Here are some pictures (if I can get them to upload):

Congratulations!!! I received my 24x48 LSG in early Nov and have been loving it!!!

Oh man SO nice. That's genius on the upper shelf. Wish I had thought of that!

Enjoy the heck out of it.

I recognized that crate immediately.

Congrats!!

Congratulations! Very nice looking. Any pictures of the upper shelf? I’m having a difficult time picturing it.

I got the idea of the split upper shelf from BabyBack Maniac. Saw it on one of his videos and thought "Genius!!!"

Chris Goodlander at LSG doesn't have it listed as an option; you have to ask for it specifically. I don't know why they don't list it. As accessories go, it's very inexpensive and makes a lot of sense.

Here are a few pictures. I pulled it out in one of them but that's not really a practical/safe use of the shelf.

Very nice! Those things are a Beast to move, I had to help the delivery guy move mine from the delivery truck to my garage. Congrats.

Congratulations! LSG's are awesome quality and yours is a beauty to say the least.

Do the split shelves connect together in some sort of mechanical way when you are using both? Context of question is, when you pull them out do you have to pull both independently or are they tied together?

The shelves are physically separate and simply sit adjacent to each other in the shelf runners. They don't attach to each other and they're not really meant to be pulled out; pull them out too far and the shelf in front could tumble onto the ground. That's the tradeoff for the convenience of being able to stack them away inside the cooker. I'm fine with that.

I just pulled them out for the picture and was rewarded with a bunch of grease all over my hand.
