I took the recent opportunity to accept a used and once refurbished smoker from an acquaintance, only to find out it was a Bandera model, which is apparently a good thing. So, I sanded and painted it and refinished the wood slats in an Olympic stain called Cinder, and it is awaiting a new seasoning.

I've never had a smoker before, so its a new adventure. I downloaded the 101 and may try making a temporary baffle and see how that goes, and I like the idea of investing in separate thermometers for accuracy. I'm planning on a July 4 smoke as its maiden voyage.

Looking forward to reading and learning here.

Congrats on the new smoker and welcome aboard

No way I could wait till July 4th. You got to fire her up and do a fatty and some wings at least.

I wouldn't wait till the 4th, get it broke in, and get used to how it works

You are a brave soul to christen a new cooker, and a stick burner at that, on a 4th of July event. Take that thing and run some fire through it, get to know her, then be a rock star on the 4th. My 2 cents. Congrats on the new cooker and welcome.
