Hi all...long time lurker but finally joined the Brethren recently. I'm a Florida native on an extended stay in the NE (NJ & PA) on work projects and love to fire up the smoker(s) during my free time. My passion and "hobby" started out with a Weber gasser and an electric smoker and then I bought a Traeger pellet grill. The Traeger peaked my interest and within months I had a Yoder YS640 and passed the Traeger on to my father in law. Ten months later I had to have a YS1500 to go with the YS640. I went on vacation for a week in July and ended up getting a Weber kettle to cook on while on vacation. Last week I ordered an Assassin 28 gravity feed and can't wait to add it to my growing collection. I have a stick burner on my want list and may have to address that eventually

Welcome to the Brethren! Sounds like you’ve got a bad case of MCS (more cooker syndrome). Not sure there’s a cure for it, sorry :(

Welcome!

Would love to hear your thoughts on the 1500 compared to the 640. I had a 640 for awhile and every now and then I contemplate ordering a 1500...many say the 1500 has a flavor that is more akin to a stickburner??

The 1500 definitely has a more pronounced smoke profile than the 640. It cooks a little different than the 640 and took me a little bit to adjust. It tends to run cooler than what the controller indicates so running a higher set temp took a little getting used to. Sides(squash, cut potatoes, etc) tend to get too much smoke if left uncovered the whole time. I usually have the meats on the 1500,and sides on the 640 when I do a big cook.
