Default St Louis

Hi All-

Gonna be in St. Louis in two weeks- any recommendations on great places to go? Could be BBQ, or other good stuff- I'm open to anything.

Thanks,
Tom

Tons.

BBQ - Sugarfire, Pappys, Bogarts, Salt n Smoke
Beers - Schlafly, Urban Chestnut
The Hill - old Italian area. Fantastic authentic food. Any of these. Cunetto, Zias, Pietro’s, GianTonys

Ted Drewes. Local custard stand. Two locations. Lines get long.

The Loop - area of restaurants, theaters, bars, shops. Blueberry Hill was Chuck Berry’s old place. Salt n Smoke is here, Fitz’s is a local root beer bottler/ restaurant.

Soulard - tons of bars and restaurants. Plus a farmers market.

Grand Center Contemporary Art Museum

Forest Park - top zoo in the country - free, Art Museum, Science Center.

Central West End - food, bars, Chess Museum. Try Dressels Pub. Was a DDD location.

Plus casinos, six flags over mid america, Budweiser brewery tour, the Arch, City Museum. See a Cardinals game.

Pm me if you need more ideas!

Botanical Gardens

Grants Farm

Old St Charles (Lewis and Clarke started here) cool shops, cobblestone streets, microbrewery called Trailhead

Also, depending on your tastes there a few nasty clubs over on the IL side of the river. Sauget, Brooklyn, and Centerville are the cities.

Not St. Louis proper, but A Fine Swine (two or three locations) is worth a visit.

Also, Doc’s Smokehouse.

And don’t forget the Malort!

Of course Joel lives there, but I snipped a few of his comments as I am a tourist in his town quite often.

Been to all his BBQ places listed and all hit the mark, easily.

The Soulard farmers market (btw, its awesome) is also across the street from Bogarts, a great 1-2 punch.

The Arch complex is just about done with a major renovation, its really nice.

City Museum is in the same sentence of Joel's but that could be a thread of its own. Undescribable. Look it up. If you are going with Grabnabber Junior, its a must! Prepare for a "museum" like no other. It's interactive, in the concept of you climb all over everything.

People come in with knee pads on, no lie. It's nuts, and its awesome

FWIW, I was just in St. Louis and ate at Sugarfire. Everything but the Jalapeno Cheddar sausage I was less than impressed with. The brisket seemed like it was under a heat lamp for 3 days and the sides were average. Maybe I got them on a bad day as all the reviews said to go there.

I wish I went to Bogarts.

If your driving and have an ice chest, this is the best sausage place in STL. They also ship. We load up everytime we go!

Just curious, which location?

I haven't been to the downtown location, but the time I went to the one in Olivette, it was spot on (and it was 5pm and rocking so that mighta helped)

It was the one downtown. Here are some pics. The orange sides are sweet potatoes on top and some Buffalo Smoked Turkey Tots on the bottom.

You got a bad pour.

That’s not what it usually looks like.
