Default A veritable TASTE treat that just can't be beat!

With the Current Spouse's birthday on February 15th, (happens every year the day after Valentine's day), we decided to make the long overdue pilgrimage to the Taste Bistro last night.
Well, without a doubt, the wait was more than worth it.

After greeting John (Wine & Swine) at the bar, we were escorted to our special table at the "brethren booth" and thus began an amazing evening of culinary delight.
Current Spouse had a Georgia Peach martini and I a pint of Flying Dog and John started us off with a trio of 'small tastes' that included some fried chicken "lollipops", the salt cod fries and the mini peppers with Newsom ham.
We followed up with some deviled eggs and the house-made liverwurst.
Folks, you have never seen such beautiful, taste-tempting morsels along with sauces and spices that that truly tingle the palate.

Next up came the "Taste" part of the evening and CS had the baby iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and bacon and I the mini pulled pork sandwiches with cucumber slaw.
Words begin to fail me now.

Next up was the "Large Taste" and CS opted for the special that night, a fillet mignon with lobster ravioli on a bed of spinach (to die for) and I had the almond crusted sea scallops with Meyer lemon, cauliflower and capers.
Delicious.
A glass of Pinot Grigio for the CS, and I another pint of Flying Dog arrived as ordered, and John also introduced us to the chef, Ed Witt. (this is a very special, most creative and very talented cat.)
We also got a chance to see John's smoke gun and a peek at a future taste that is currently a work in progress.
Though too stuffed for dessert, CS and I decided it would be a shame not to share the sweet potato and bourbon bread pudding with maple ice cream.
(hope you're still with me.)

The staff was outstanding, the service impeccable and what John, Ed et al are creating here is truly amazing.
I am most pleased to be able to add my dos centavos after enjoying one of the most memorable dining experiences that the CS and I have ever had.
If y'all have not yet been, try and make a visit soon.
I know we will be back again soon.

Regards,
Wes

Damn Wes... Sounds like you had the same great experience and service the rest of us had who have been there as well.

You did a good thing by making room for dessert too. My favorite part.

(PS - I still love the fact you refer to her as your "current" spouse, as if you may be going their with a former or future spouse so John and Ed don't get confused.

Since my kids are down in Florida for the week enjoying the sun with my in-laws Laura and I decided that we were long overdue for another trip to Taste. We stopped in last night for dinner. Had a couple of favorites, chicken lollipops, grilled cheese, and pork sliders. I did try something that i have never had before, the chicken pot pie. It was not your mamas chicken pot pie. Ed Witt has truly re-created this dish. Amazing!

Yep, that pot pie is pretty amazing. It's hard to find perfectly cooked chicken in a restaurant and I'm not just saying that because I know the owner.

Default Sunday Dinner Tradition at TASTE

FYI re today's Newsday column by our own Joan Remenick...

Sunday dinner is being revived as a tradition at more than one Long Island restaurant. Every Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m., Taste, 660 Franklin Ave., Garden City, will offer a family-style dinner at $25 a person. (Plates serve from one to four, depending on how many diners at a table order a given dish.) Chef Ed Witt offers a choice of three main courses - house-smoked trout, Meyer lemon-roasted chicken or apple cider-braised brisket - accompanied by one of three salads as well as one of three side dish selections, such as crushed potatoes with olive oil and macaroni and cheese. The meal concludes with a choice of sweet-potato pie, banana pudding or dark chocolate brownie. For reservations, call 516-663-5140.
