Default Thermopop vs Mk4 Thermapen???

Which of these would you suggest? Is the new thermapens worth the extra cash, or does the thermopop hold its own especially with the difference in price?

At the house, I have a thermopop, in the bbq trailer I have a thermapen. Both are just as accurate, but the thermopop is a little bit slower.

I have owned a ton of different thermopens and they are great. In the restaurant, they guys don't seem to value my stuff and we have "Lost" 4 thermopens. So it is Pops from here on out. I actually buy 10 or more at a time on the open box sales and such. I love to get them out to friends that don't have good thermos. They are slightly slower than the pens, but still very fast. For comps I have my trusty Therma K prob.

Ditto. The thermapop does a great job of taking temperatures, but when juggling multiple things, not having to remove a storage sleeve and the instant-on feature of the thermapen are extremely valuable.

I'm sure I'd love the thermopen, but I have the DOT, plenty fast enough for me and the price is right, get it when it's on sale and the price is righter....

I have had two of the Thermopops for six years and have been great and are even still on the original batteries . Thermopop is just a few seconds slower in read time which does not bother me .

If required for your application. ( I have both)
Say you wanted to temp 10 + steaks or even poultry.
Is the extra price worth less than half the time temping.

^^^This is my experience. Temping 1 brisket I grab which ever is closer. Temping a kettle full of chicken parts I make sure I grab the thermapen.

I first got the pop and loved it. Curiosity got the better of me and I bit on a sale for the MK4. Don't regret the purchase at all, but the pop is good too.

If you have a couple pieces of chicken, it doesn’t matter much. If you have a couple dozen, the Thermapen makes a big difference.

I have both. The Thermapop rarely comes out of the drawer now.
