Agree with Frognot's suggestions I'll add Mickelwait, La Barbecue, Terry Blacks, Leroy and Lewis, Interstellar and JNL for BBQ places.
6th street and Rainey is nightlife with live music and bars. We prefer Rainey st over 6th.
If you like beer there are lot's of great breweries. Austin Beerworks, Zilker, Native Texan.
