Default Weber Charcoal Dividers

Hi Guys,

I am using a Weber 57cm Charcoal kettle. with my grill Weber sent me 2 Charcoal Dividers. First time using them last night to do some veggies to go with some fillet.

Any advice on quickly removing them to move between Indirect and Direct cooking, I ended up using a burger slice to put them all into the middle section. Just wondering is there is a quick/safe way of doing this?

thanks,

I use long tongs and gloves. Just have to remove the grate for access. My grate has the fold up ends, but there isn't enough access through them to safely do it, IMO.

I'm a little confused...are you looking to remove them during a cook to switch from indirect to direct? unless you want the whole grill set up for direct, then when you're set up for indirect, you've got part of your grill ready to go for direct.

You could always just bank your coals against 1 side, and just use some tongs something to spread them out part way through your cook if you want more/all of your grill direct.

Just set them to one side of the kettle. Those little baskets do a great job of deflecting the heat going sideways, so you really do get a two-zone fire when you use them. If you push them all the way to one side, you'll have a direct area and an indirect area.

I typically use just one basket pushed to the side, it's enough to heat the whole kettle with the lid on so your food cooks on the indirect side, then finish with a quick sear directly over the coals.

I use my baskets with my weber rotisserie. They are good for searing too. A key to hot fire is deep coals.

Thanks for all your advice, I think the 1 bank of coals will be alright.
