Default Help me find a smoker

I'm starting to get the shakes from not having a smoker anymore. About have the wife talked into a Klose. I would prefer a used one though. I'm kicking myself for passing on a BYC in SoCal (shipping scared me away). There is the Klose up north, but still 1200 miles away. Shipping puts it close to a new one. Any hints on where to look? People are always upgrading to bigger pits. I'd prefer a Klose or something comparable. Something like a 20x48 or BYC.

Thanks,
Ty

When I was looking, it seemed to me that all the used smokers for sale were in Texas or Olkahoma. I found a number of them on eBay and ended up buying one near me that I was able to pick up. It wasn't a Klose but it was 1/4 steel and has been a vast improvement over my previous sheet metal models.

I like my Cimmaron. It's built like a tank (1/4" new steel) and has a 80 year warranty (that cracks me up). It is smaller than what you seem to be looking for, though.

I second that. I have the Brinkman Stillwater, 1/4 steel and it is a pleasure to use, especially since I only paid $250 for it. Mine only had a 75 year warranty. Since it was two years old when I bought it, that leaves me only 73 years to go. Bummer, I'd have to get a new one when I'm 130.

Call or e-mail Steve at Bates. His product doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Klose but is substantially less expensive. Excellent customer service and awesome bang for the buck.

Brother Spoon had a recent thread about the smoker Steve built for him. I think it's here in Q-talk. He was very pleased with the service and the product.

Talked to Dave Klose tonight, and he has one for me. It's the 20x42 2 door. It's a factory refurbished pit. New paint and new racks. Here's the link to the style:

http://www.bbqpits.com/20x42.htm

He's gonna try to get it shipped to Dallas with another pit or 2. Shipping will be about the same as gas round trip to Houston. I'll probably get a charcoal basket also.

Ty

Dam, you boys have it made. As far as I know there are no smoker builders in these parts. The shipping would kill me.

Awesome pit, Ty.

Dang, Ty-stick, that is one sweet pit. I'm re-doing my patio and I would LOVE something just like that. Way to go man!

Funny story, I emailed him about 3 am. His reply was that funny enough, they just got the smoker.
