A fellow woodworker stopped by the store yesterday and asked if the back of my truck was open. Earlier he had mentioned his son had brought him some big slabs of pecan, and i asked if he had any scraps leftover.. "it is my favorite smoking wood"
So he shows up with two 3" thick slabs of rough sawn, air dried pecan. One is a piece of crotch wood (not woodpile) that is about 6 foot long and 12" wide.
Just had a discussion with Bubba a couple of weeks ago about wood sraps from the woodshop and that it burns up like kindlin, giving up no smoke flavor. I was hoping that because it has been air dried from a small mill that the moisture content will be higher than kiln dried, plus the fact that it is 3 " thick will help. Thinking of keep it outside and intact and only cutting off as needed to keep the moisture up.
I know, no pics, didn't happen and "cut off a chunk and see what happens" is an obvious answer, but figured i run this by the Brethren knowledge source.

I'd make a table out of it!
Rip it down to 3x3 and cut it to smokin chunks, great score...if it happened.
