Well I decided to pull into Walmart to see if they had any marked down hinged grates and coal grates for one of my kettles. And they did, sorta.
$150.00, marked down to $40.00. That means that the hinged grate cost $6.67, and the coal grate cost $2.13. And I now have two new planters.:biggrin1:

Ive grabbed 6 so far. The last Walmart I went to got tricky and tried to hide them from me. BS showed that they had 3, and I looked high and low for those 3 boxes. I took another look around before leaving and BAM, there they were. I've gotten in on the series 5 and barrel house at $199 and $89 respectively. haven't seen them lower yet here.
theres alot of walmarts in my area, at least 13 within an hour drive. barrel houses cookers are down to limited stock at most stores and nearly full price. there are over 40 pit boss copperheads in the area. only 2 at $199, the rest are full price still. :sad:

I found myself back looking this morning.
Haven't taken the kettle out of the box yet. I find myself thinking the kettle I wanted the grates for is looking kind of ragged, and how the one touch would look mounted in the table instead. It has the ash catcher and everything. And one touch's really do cook chicken better, with the larger vents for higher temps.
I justified both pit boss' and the bhc as trial purchases. after playing with them for a few months I can sell them off for what I have into them. I really like the barrel for its fuel mileage. the pit boss classic I treat like a gas grill and use for convenience.
my goal for the summer is to dump the ok joe and akorn.

I'd been watching the Akorn price, waiting for it to drop below $100.00. While I was waiting, I searched threads and ran across posts about it filling with water when it rains, and the need for a diffuser. So that meant that a cover and a stone or coal grate and pizza pan were needed. Covers on my patio act as sails. Then there is the CI grate and intake issues.
So I went looking for new kettle grates.
Some of those Lodge pieces look nice...
None around me.

Unfortunately, that ended up being my second Brickseek wild goose chase. I've got the day off, so I figured I'd drive out there. Nope, looked all over the store, and they didn't have any. Same thing at a different Walmart I went to a couple weeks ago.
