I have a person that will sell me a old style 18.5 wsm in like new condition for $115. what is the difference between the old and the new models.

If it's really old it may have wooden handles, smaller water pan, does not have a built in thermometer. Other than that, it's pretty much the same thing.

The difference .. oh about $184.00 .. What,he asked didn't he ..

The older model lacks these features:
Built-in lid thermometer
Improved access door and water pan
Sturdier legs and heat shield under the charcoal bowl

Each of these things you could modify later yourself if you felt it necessary.

If it's a model 1880, definitely buy it and don't look back.

Thanks for the info, I picked the wsm up. Looks right at home next to the rest of my cookers

Wow... that's not really old, just the previous model. INCREDIBLE deal for that price.

Yeah dude, AWESOME deal. That model was my first ever smoker, and it got me hooked! I sold it to a good friend for 100 bucks before I bought the 22.5, which wound up burning so much extra charcoal that if I wasn't cooking a lot of meat I felt ashamed hehe. Nice score man.
