IMO.....if your getting drums that have had the bladders or food grade materials inside, save the burn and just go straight to the wire wheel.
Saves a burn and all that black ash and the liner comes out pretty easily!

Then you don't have to repaint the outside either!

Ok its settled out at 250ish F and holding after 3 hours, the only way I can keep this
temp is to keep all vents top and bottom closed, there must be a serious air leak around the lid, on a good note though I have a small batch of MOINK balls cooking and hope they will turn out ok.

Check out my balls :icon_devil

and heres the UDS

It appears from the pic that the lid does not sit down well (air leak), and also that dent on the top left may have your drum out of round. Take a couple of hammers and try to push that dent back out. Try to make the top of the drum as round as possible. measure acroos in several sots and try to get it rounded out. You can usually bend it back into place by grabbing across the top and pulling it back towards you. You want it good and tight, no air leaks.:-D

BC2001, like your drum. You may want to cut down the size of your diffuser though if your having trouble getting up to temp. You might want to cut it down a 1/2 in at a time. I use a 16 in clay pot base in mine and it works like a champ. Don't want to smother the charcoal, ya got to let her breathe baby, breathe.:-D

i see what your saying either that or just get rid of it i used it without the heat shield and it worked fine. i may still experiment with it though. and thaks

Still have to wire brush the inside , I can see this is going to be fun .NOT !

Be a bit careful about that food grate it looks like with those supports my hold a bit of heat. If you get hot spots try using a weber or less hefty braces.

Could you tack some handles on it so you don't shred your fingers taking it out.

Simple fix.

$14.99 Lowes.

KY,
It is hard to see but I do have a wire loop in the center of the grate that falls down when not in use. Then I can just pull up on it and it extends and is used as a handle.

Nor,
Like I said, right now I don't have much $ to spend and want to use my $ on a wireless thermometer, you guys know of a good one for around $35-$40 ? Right now I don't have any $ in this project except for time . I am on short term disability right now so,time is what I have alot of. Well, I guess I do have around $20 in it if you count a case and a pack of smokes but that doesn't count ,right :)
Next step is to wire brush and get a wireless thermo , what and where should I get ?
Thanks,
Raz

Are these ET-7's waterproof/snowproof ? Just wondering if you have to find a way to keep these dry if the weather should turn bad.

Go online at Walmart.com ... there is a wireless there for 15 bucks and it works pretty dang well. I am able to watch my UDS and the game from my living room

Well guy at work had a old weber lid that he gave to me. After tapping a few small dings on the edge fits perfect like it was meant for it. No major hammering just very small cosmetic ones. All ready had it seasoned need to drill the rack bolt holes and figure out a color. Little cold here so had a small basket of lump to heat it up to primer it. Lid seals good but the top of the drum lip has small dents in it but I think will be ok. I also want to fix the handle a little bad shape. Any good ways to do this?

Any of you guys sandblast the inside to get the liner out ?
I am thinking this would be alot easier and better on the lungs than the wire brush approach.
I have had a sandblasting kit laying around in the package for along time.I just opened it today and I thought I would buy a bag of sand if it will work.
Thanks,
Raz

It'll work fine, but imagine crawling in that drum with all that sand flying!
