I bet you could use 2 pounds of sausage and make it thicker. Grillinski is right, it all depends on the stuffing you are using and how thick you like your slice of sausage.
Sometimes I make a sauerkraut/apple stuffing...with this method that might be too much kraut for me.

The large piece of pipe has a 2" inside diameter, a 1 1/2 inch would be nice too.

I think having less cheese and more tatoes/onions and corned beef in the stuffing kept it from blowing out too.

That's what I do jeanie... use 2 pounds of sausage in the gallon bag. Another thing I do is spray the inside of the baggie with spray veggie oil before installing the meat... it helps in sliding the meat out.
