This trip was on short notice but turned out Awesome!!! Lots of things went our way. Great food and met some awsome people :)

Main reason was to go watch the Moto GP race at the Circuit of the Americas. I've been riding / racing all my life, so motorcycles and racing are a passion of mine. So is BBQ though, so this trip was super sweet :)


First stop was to "The Salt Lick" in Driftwood TX. When we got there, it was at least 1.5 to 1.75 hour wait to be seated. Well, since I'm on LEO, they had three Hays County guys doing security there. I went over to talk to them and say hi. I asked if they had any inside track for a hungry out of town LEO. One of them said, "I'll be right back. What's your pager number?" I showed it to him. Within 2 mins. of him walking off, my pager Buzzed :) We got in, ate, and were out of there in less than an hour. BIG Shout out to my Hays County brothers!!!

Looks like a fun trip! Great post! And think you came home fired up the pit and you're going to have brisket again :)

We decided since time was short on this trip, we skipped the 4-5 hour wait and just went to others. I WILL do it someday, but just didn't on this trip.
 
Oh, I forgot to mention. I actually ordered extra and put it on ice. I brought home brisket from Salt Lick, Louie Muellers, and Blacks!!

My parents and I, along with my sister and B-in-law just ate it all tonight :)
 
i've been to Salt Lick and it's not bad, but the "Lockhart 3"(Smitty's/Kreuz/Black's) are much better imo. and between those, my vote goes to Smitty's. only downsides are it's cash only and if you don't get there early enough, they'll be out of ribs, but their brisket is the best i've ever had(have not made it to franklin's or mueller's for comparison yet).

Well as soon as photo bucket starts working again, I'll have pics of where we went to BLACKS, LOUIE MUELLER, AND KRUEZ!!! Those were the four we made this trip.
 
That looks awesome! Austin is where I'd live if I didn't live in Tampa. We've got an office there in the Domain and it's my most frequented of all 83 offices we have in North America ha!

Also awesome of Salt Lick to recognize your service.
