Whole rack of pork ribs

Welcome Larry.

Save that picture. You are going to be your own worst critic once you put into practice what you will learn on here.

What do you cook on? How did you cook the ribs?

thanks for the advice Larry

I have a Char-Griller with a side smoker attached. I used a rib rub recipe i found of the food channel web site and smoked with some apricot from a tree in the back yard.

Nice Rack!

Got to love a guy that posts a pic of his Q in one of his first attempts. Good job Bro. and welcome. That's a good smoker you have there, but it looks like you have a hot spot. Rotate you ribs every hour or so to reduce the charing. The hot spot on those are typically nearest the firebox. You may even want to reduce your fire too. Do you have some thermos to check temps? The one on your unit is famous for not telling the whole story.

Big Dog, thanks for the advice. I'll rotate next time. I just order a Maverick et-73 or something like that for 40 bucks at amazon.com the one on the unit looks cheap!

Good looking ribs.

If you're using the side fire box for heat, flip the charcoal pan in the smoke chamber over and use it as a heat shield. Cheap mod and works great.

Do I put it in the spot under the grates where the heat comes out of the box to the main grill?

Yes, it helps distribute the heat. I haven't used my Chargiller for a while, but it is a rib cooking machine.

Nice job on the ribs! No matter how well you cook, you will always say, hmm, how can I do better?

Jeff

Hey Gary, welcome from Utah... Them ribs look good for a first try, I'd eat the heck right out of 'em...

welcome, i have one of those offsets also - try not to pile hot coals to high & close to opening that too will create a little burnning & hot spotting - but nice work keep it coming!
