The 2nd Green Mountain BBQ Championship is set for June 25-26 (Sat-Sun) in Waterbury VT. The competition is part of the overall Not Quite Independence Day BBQ Festival, supporting Rotary Club of Waterbury. Besides the BBQ Festival with authentic barbecue, craft brews and live music, the NQID celebration includes the annual Saturday morning parade and evening fireworks extravaganza. And Waterbury is home to Green Mountain Coffee, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and a diversity of world-renowned micro-brews including The Alchemist and Lawson’s Finest Liquids.

2016 applications are now available from www.GreenMountainBBQ.com, but here are some highlights for the competition:
- Prize purse of $5,000+
- Base sites of 20’ x 30’
- 50/50 draw for the Jack Daniels competition
- NEW – Automatic Qualifier for the 2016 World Food Championships in Kissimmee, FL -- one of only 2 qualifiers in New England
- Saturday NEBS Categories: Stuffed Fatty, Pizza, Fajitas/Tacos, The Mystery Box
- OPTIONAL People’s Choice Contest on Saturday, meat TBA from sponsor
- OPTIONAL Vending of Competition Samples on Sunday (no state license required for 1-day vending)
- OPTIONAL Two-Day Vending (state license required) – register by Feb. 29 and save $50

We are now accepting applications for competitive BBQ and Grilling teams of all skill levels for both Saturday and Sunday. In 2015, we had 29 teams compete, including 3 World Champions. At least 24 teams have confirmed that they will be returning in 2016, including World Champion Smokin’ Hoggz. With this in mind, we expect 35+ teams this year.

For vendors, we had an outstanding turnout for our inaugural BBQ Festival, with about 4,000 public attendees over the weekend. Five of our eight BBQ vendors sold out completely, and our other food vendors did well too. We expect 5,000+ attendees this year.

The Green Mountain BBQ Championship, besides becoming an Automatic Qualifier for the 2016 World Food Championships, has also just been selected as an Automatic Qualifier for the 2017 Sonny’s Smokin’ Showdown Invitational, set January 2017 in Sanford, FL.

We've also just added a People's Choice Sauce Showdown Contest to our Saturday program, to allow teams and vendors to compare their BBQ sauces in a blind tasting by the public.

Just a quick reminder about an upcoming deadline. If you plan to vend both days of the BBQ Festival, as well as compete, you can save $50 off the vending fee if you register by Feb. 29. Last year, five of our eight BBQ vendors sold out completely, and we expect 5,000+ attendees this year. No fee is required if you only want to sell competition samples on Sunday after final turn-in.

We can fit about another 15 teams comfortably in the location, so if you're interested in joining us, please contact me ASAP so I can set aside space. Food vending is optional, as is the Sauce Showdown competition and People's Choice Pulled Pork contest. We started our Early Bird ticket sales this week, and it looks like we're going to blow away last year's 4,000 attendance.
 
With about 2 months to go until the Green Mountain BBQ & Music Festival, we have only 4 MORE SPOTS for teams. We currently sit at 44 teams for the KCBS contest, and an additional 3 teams doing just the grilling contest, for 47 teams!! Once these 4 spaces are gone, we're stopping at a max 48 KCBS teams. Let me know ASAP if you're interested and I'll hold a spot for you.
