Buying smoking wood in PA?

I was able to find some decent looking wood in Harrisburg, PA...looks to be a short distance away.

Best bet is to check Craigslist and the Facebook Marketplace in your area...just search for firewood. All the woods listed in the link I provided are great for BBQ with the exception of locust. I can't find anything for sure about locust wood for BBQ so I can't say for sure either way.

I've never cooked with locust, but have burned it in my wood stove. Unless it is very well seasoned (i.e., several years old), it produces a foul-smelling smoke. I'd stay away from it if I were you.

South-central PA is a mecca for great hardwoods. You should be able to find wood cut and split into wood stove lengths sold by the truckload for a pretty decent price. You likely will need to do some additional cutting and splitting to get to the size you need for your cooker. As mentioned already, craigslist and facebook should be good places to look. Also keep an eye out for home-made signs, ads in the newspaper classifieds, and people selling by the side of the road.

Just be sure to know what areas are quarantine for wood. There are a few invasive species in my area of the state or close to my area. You just need to be mindful of that when moving wood between locations.
