I want to be a West Coast Pioneer

Someone's trying to sell UDS' for 500 bucks on the Houston list.
Parts couldn't have cost him more than 50 bucks, the way drums are found around these parts.

Makes me wanna start up my own UDS "business."

Depends on what you make your UDS out of. I have half inch expanded metal for my grates, 12 gauge steel for my diffuser and fire box tray. Everything on its welded and has a weber lid with ring mod. You add a few coats of paint etc, I dont see 250 being an out of the question price. If its over built :-D

People on the West Coast would never use something like that.

I e-mailed the poster and asked for pics. Here's what the drums look like:

How much labor is in a uds? Like 4-5 hours So $50 and hour probably not too bad of a price if you don't have the skills or resources.

Try taking a car in for work and see how much they charge an hour.

been seeing those pop up more and more. prices are kinda all over the place.

Other than Eds drum smoker wasn't Mista the first balcony smoker on this forum? Didn't the ball valve set up on a UDS originate out west?

Soon, west coast trailer parks will be filled with the glorious smell of BBQ.

Greg Cooper is truly a West Coast trendsetter, with a large stockpile of pipe nipples and caps! He has spared no expense with a fantastic paint scheme and ever so accurate Char-Broil thermometer. In all fairness it does not look to be a cheap imitation of lesser known Southern Californian knock-offs that have graced balconies, trailer parks and Farmers Markets on the West Coast, if only it was closer to Washington State, I would definitely take a look-see at this marvelous be-all & end-all cooker!
Give him a call!
