The 2021 BBQ Brethren Chicago Bash Planning Thread

As Hotch likes to say, it's never to early to start planning a Bash!

Well, we were all locked down last year and it looks like the Cook County Forest Preserves are back open again. The past few years we've had the Bash in the NW Burbs near the end of August. Do we want to stay up North or should we venture further South this year? Keep it at the end of August or try the beginning of September when summer vacations are over and it starts to get a bit cooler and less humid?

Aug 21 or 28 or maybe Sept 11 or 18? Sept 4th is Labor Day weekend, so that's probably not a good date.

Whatcha guys & gals think?

So what does everyone think? Are we gonna have a Bash again this year? Who's in???

I’m gonna watch this one just in case we come back up to IL in September. Not currently planning on it, but possible.

While we haven't committed to anything yet, Sept. 11 is a Mission Zero Hundred Hours BBQ Competition that we will likely cook, and Sept. 18 is an SCA cook off at Topling Goliath Brewery in iowa that we will likely cook.

At the moment, August is wide open.

Well not a lot of posts here in response to dates & locations except for Ron, so I made the executive decision. The Chicago Bash will be Saturday August 28th at Busse Woods. Right by 53 & 72. A lot of groves at this Forest Preserve and so far all the groves are open, at this point I'm not going to pay the exorbitant fee to get a permit, but we'll see how things go.

In years past, Ron_L would PM tons of local Brethren hoping they would come out, but most never did. So no PMs this year, hit the sign up link below, I'm betting the core group will be out there as always and hopefully we have some new local Brethren that want to come out to a Bash. But so far, I'm the only one showing up. :noidea:

If you haven't been to a Bash, you need to, whether it's here or one of the others across the country, they're a BLAST!!!

I see what you did grasshopper!

I haven't been in awhile. I'm going to try to make this one. Strangely, since the last one I attended, I've developed a taste for Malort!

Sorry I haven't been able to commit to this, this year, Andy.

August has always been up in the air for me with kids moving into college dorms and such spanning the past 6 years and 3 more to go, as well as the wife's running schedule and such.

Been so busy I haven't really had time to lend you a hand with a PM campaign which I use to marginally assist Ron with. Sometimes people stop or slow coming to the forum, but have their User CP set up to get an email whenever they receive a PM. It has waken'd up (can't use woke anymore) a few people, but as you said for every 20 he would send there would be maybe one response.

And with the whacky people in charge of IL, now we're adding states back onto the Covid chit list.

I've missed this Bash as I made 3 in a row, after missing the first 4? or more.

Hope you are doing well

Take care

So far I'm still the only one signed up, thinking it may be cancelled for lack of interest.

I still don't know why we get 50-70 people coming out to the winter get together at a random restaurant, but no one actually wants to come out and cook during the summer. :noidea:

Hotch 07-23-2021 09:10 PM

I understand what you are saying...

Grabnabber 07-27-2021 07:50 PM

Finalize it- I'll be there farkers.

LYU370 07-27-2021 10:09 PM

Oh crap, that means I have to bring Malort for you again... :-P

And besides, it's my birthday the day before, so everyone needs to show up!

Grabnabber 08-11-2021 07:36 PM

Is this thing on or not? Asking for a friend.
