Before we discuss the first issue, we need to thank some people:

The Smoke Signals logo was created by N8Man. His graphic skills and willingness to lend a hand are greatly appreciated.

Smoke Signals is a small continuation of what Phil created with the inception of the BBQ Brethren. Without his selfless dedication to the BBQ community, this magazine would not exist.

The BBQ Brethren membership has pitched in to help ways to numerous to count. We tried to contact every person who won a weekly pictorial throwdown and each person agreed to let their images be used in the magazine. Whenever technical assistance was asked for, helpful responses abounded. All of the writers have contributed their work without compensation.

Pat Sawyer donated his UDS construction article and asked that the credit go to the BBQ Brethren.
