Calcutta auctions at contests

We recently conducted a calcutta auction at the Lake Havasu cook off
I know these things are big in Texas have they cought on anywhere else?
Nice lil gift for the Cancersucks Monica Fun
The Local Food Bank and 3 winning bidders
We went with payouts on GC, 1st in Pork and 10th in Ribs
:) The GC also hit 10th in Ribs :)
Great Bid Sweet Peppers
Then Kelly won the GC but was also had Notley Que
so he hit the 1st in Pork money

A good day for Four Legs Up indeed

Makes things a little more exciting. Larry (Chromesporty) made a little extra change for his 1st in chicken Sat.

There was $5000 in the calcutta this past week, so they paid out top 5 in each category.

Interesting
My thinking was to pay in Three spots and spread it out
We "bundled" the teams into groups of 3
A top mid and newer teams
It seemed to work
Just have to educate the Folks and get the sponsoring groups
folks out there to bid

It can be an acquired, and profitable, skill:lol: Were teams allowed to buy a portion of their team back, if they didn't win the auction for themselves?

Certain teams have a history of going for a good chunk of change.

When and how do you conduct the calcutta auctions and who is allowed to bid?Just any one that is there or just teams? in my short cooking time all I have seen here is side bets and lately no one has been doing them .

In TX anyone can bid. Keller Lions club members bought alot of teams last year.

This was not done this week But I do indeed think it would add to the event

I was there also and you are right a lot of the teams were picked up by Lions club members.

I'd be all over that, love the idea, my brother does those in fishing tournaments and they get in the hundreds of thousands.

I vehemently oppose outsiders bidding up the teams at a Calcutta. I'd rather swap turn in trays with a buddy and split any winnings with them rather than let an outsider take money for my win. Screw them!!

For this reason I prefer the cookers pool.

Then we will not be putting you on the Hospitality team :)

Yes there is that side to the story

Great now we have to bring more money to a contest.

Ok, count me in, great idea to get sponsors involved.
I can see them parading out a team captain, reading off the type of smoker they use, points in the TOY or Pickled Pig standings, best finishes for the year.
