I'm pretty sure smoke ninja will be borrowing the Mak this summer. For one of his party's.
Steve is already a pellet head... sort of.

None! It's my least used cooker. Did I mention my wife and daughter swear bugs are jumping in the food as I cook? [emoji23]

I did have the wifi disconnect twice today. It's 22 feet from the router with a brick wall and 1 interior wall between. It took a manual button push to reconnect. Then it was fine for 6 hours. Tech support is M-F only.

I tried really hard to get the hopper to tunnel. It didn't happen until there was less than half a pound of pellets left. Very good design! I think it beeped a few times. I'm guessing it was trying to tell me the pellets were low but it didn't display anything.

I used LJ apple on chicken and I could still taste smoke. It's usually a very mild smoke on my other pellet cookers. I cooked beef ribs with the hickory Mak sent. Won't know until later tonight if the smoke is better as I had to leave. It did smell awesome.

I cooked everything in pans. Next time I'll foil the drip pan and see which I prefer.

Interesting, please keep us posted on the WiFi. I almost bought it as well but decided I could always add it later if need be. I have a thermoworks smoke that works great around the house. If I decide to take a nap I can set one of the probes on the grate and set a low temperature alarm in case it shuts down.

Today's hard work paid off. Probably the best brisket I have done. The smoke ring was pretty pedestrian, but the smoke flavor was strong.

Interesting about the WiFi disconnect. Mine is way further with numerous walls in between. Curious... when you turn the MAK on, hold down the up arrow for about 10 seconds. It’ll throw you into the setup. It’ll also display the firmware version. What version are running? You should be running 3.44.

I do this quite often when grilling or doing reverse sears. For MAK 1 Star users you need to have the flame zone insert which come with the 2 grates that run side to side instead of front to back.

Late to the game here, but I ordered my 1 Star on 2/18, before any of this activity, and I ordered with the Flame Zone, plus a 3/4 upper grate. They sent me the Flame Zone, with its two side-to-side 1/2 grates, plus two more of the same half grates (total of 4), plus the 3/4. Serves the purpose.

First thing I did before installing the wifi module was check the version. It's 3.44. I think I saw a wifi timeout message once. The website showed the Mak still "running" but it wasn't keeping up to date and the Mak said "web control off".

My wi-fi hasn't worked consistently for the past few weeks. It usually comes back around after a few cooks & stays functional for several months at a time. I never get stressed over it... it's easy to set the temp from the Pit Boss and the loud audible beep that it makes when the setpoint is reached makes it simple to know what's happening. I don't see the wi-fi as a critical add-on but it is cool when it works.

Prior to firmware version 3.44, there was an issue going on last year w/ the WiFi module... timeouts/disconnects being it. MAK Grills really dialed things in with ver 3.44, and that has been noticed by every MAK Grills Mobile owner I have talked with over the past 6 months or so. It has been super stable. I would definitely encourage anyone that is not experiencing that to contact MAK.

If you do call in for support, Dennis is the one you’ll want to connect with :)

This thread, IMO, has been a blast to watch unfold. It’s not over yet. Anyone else considering, or close to joining the MAK family? Just curious [emoji4]. As previously mentioned, I have never seen MAK do something like this. If you’re in the market, now’s the time to stop dragging your heels... lol.

Man, I pulled the trigger on a 1 Star 8 days prior to this thread starting. Zero regrets. They still threw me some deals, including a new tool holder for the 1 Star that’s not on their site yet. Happy happy.
