Sorry vinny, they are in southern Maine. Probably a little further than you want to ride i am guessing. They were tough to find in my area but patience prevails when drum hunting believe me. Good Luck

Hey Biggs98
Here is how I did one of my tall lids from a donor. This one is 6" tall and I took the lid and cut the center out with a sawzall using the lip as the guide, so it was a nice clean circle cut.

I made the mistake of trying to force the drum piece to fit down into the lid piece. I thought I could make some cuts and get a flush fit, not to be. You can see the vertical cuts in the pics. Next time I will just set the lid piece on the lid piece straight and weld it like that. Works great, nice and tight.

Oh, forgot to mention I put a handle on the top and one on the side. So I pull the lid off with both handles and then holding the side one hang it on one of the intakes on my UDG.

I've been a lurker here for quite some time. Just soaking up all of the good information that everybody is contributing. I finally pulled the trigger and build a UDS. It makes some darn good BBQ. Thank you everybody for contributing.

Just what I was thinking. Thanks for the help. It will come in handy.

I finally joined up after lurking for awhile. Built my UDS thanks to this thread. I was sick of all the work required with my offset. Found some perfect drums, held coconut oil and had no liner. Finished up and I'm seasoning it now. Wide open its been running on 5#'s at 525 for about 4 hours now. Can't wait to Q on this sucker!

Barbarian 05-03-2009 12:27 AM

Hey SiouxerBrewer, nice lookin' UDS and pron. Welcome to the drumhead nation.

Now just waitin' for some pron from jkd9977 so he can be welcomed also.

It's great to be a drumhead.

Prettiest UDS yet. Love the handle. Just watched Brandon Inge knock a solo.

Nice Job Iwasaseabee! I am jealous.

Where did you get the drum?

You got any contact info? I'm working with an old dented up drum and may want to swap the drum out next year.
