Another option (I'm doing this as well with a 3rd drum) is to cut the donor drum off below the high point of the middle top ridge. Use it as a super weber type lid. Please keep in mind that I have no idea if this will work or not. This is my first UDS build and won't know if it works until next week when I season it. Here's a couple pics. 3/4" lip http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...p/DSCN2359.jpg Lid #1 http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...p/DSCN2357.jpg Lid #2 http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...p/DSCN2354.jpg |
As I remember Hondad, that opener was the first part you had acquired for your UDS...
Looks good. Chris |

Nice looking drum! |

If that weber hanger goes under the lid and prevents it from sealing you are going to have temp control issues. |
thanks for the heads up, i put it on for the first time before the pic and i didnt get a tight seal. i have a couple screw in hooks that i will put on there.

Thanks to all, got to around page 140 or so, and had to start my build. Used a grape juice drum, had the typical tough coating to sand out after a burn. Tough job in the city. Seasoning went well, had to throw some sausages on while I waited. Used 3 -3/4 nipples for inlets w/ 1 ball valve & 8 -1/2" holes in lid. With valve open and 1 cap off stayed steady @ 230. Will try my hand at ribs this w/e. Thanks again to all for the advice.

Looks like a winner.

Sweet, did you just screw individual casters to the bottom of the drum?
No problem with the heat and the rubber/plastic wheels? I've been planning on buying a drum dolly, but maybe I'll just go that route.. |
