$75 credit would be nice! How are the sear grates compared to the regulars? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They are thick anodized aluminum and get hotter than blazes! I love them for grilling. Here’s some quick weeknight chicken thighs I did the other day. Pellet Boss controller set to 450°, but sear grates MUCH hotter than that as the Flame Zone covers were off. You’ll typically see temps at the main cooking grate level run about 125-150° hotter than what the controller displays when you have the Flame Zone covers removed. That’s a good thing when grilling... and I am not even talking about the sear grates, but just the ambient temp. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c1f71fbf65.jpg Here’s an IR gun right on the surface of the sear grate with the Pellet Boss controller set to 450°. The sear grates absorb every ounce of the heat and then some :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0e4126ae05.jpg |
Dang Robb. Those look like what comes off my 26" with the vortex or SnS!

I recently sold my 26 kettle with a ton of accessories. Could count the times on 1 hand I used it in the past 12 months. It was a great grill, but 9.8/10 times I preferred the MAK to it. To each their own... totally understood :) |
Well I'll have some comparing coming up of my own. Really looking forward to the versatility of the MAK.

No more takers the last couple hours? Sitting at what? 22? Still quite a showing from the Brethren for being pricey.

Yep, sitting at 22. I know for a fact that there Brethren still on the fence. Totally cool and zero pressure, but Caleb is clocking out in less than 3 hours. Hint, hint ;-) |
Mak 1 Star ordered, full upper grate. Waiting is the hardest part
|
UPDATE: Sitting at 24 new MAK owners as of 2:27pm(PST). 2.5 hours to go. 25 should be a slam dunk... lets shoot for 30. $100 store credit for all :)

Congrats and welcome to the MAK family!! And a warm welcome to the Brethren :) Whatcha been cooking on up to this point? |
Weber 22 kettle, so this is a quantum leap!
|
And thanks for the welcome, I'll be sure to make full use of the knowledge here regarding the Mak, cooking tips etc

Wow, my account got validated just in time to ask a couple quick questions! I've been lurking in this thread (and the forum) for a while.
I have a gasser (Weber) and a kamado (Vision). Debating picking this up mostly because the Vision is kind of a pain with air escaping, even after trying all of the sealing tricks in the book. So now I'm debating a MAK 1 star. Can anyone tell me how these do for pizzas? I find myself using the vision for that, but having a second grill / smoker to do them would be awesome. Last question - will I still be happy with the 1 star? I'll use it primarily for smoking, but if I like that, I'd use it for grilling as well. I assume I'll need the sear grates. |
I did my first MAK cook last night and my second will be going on in about 20 minutes. I’ll post some details tonight or tomorrow in the Appreciation thread.
