Hmm, we see tons of fresh (in the late summer) and frozen (the rest of the year) huckleberries for sale around here, but I've never seen or heard of anyone selling dried or powdered ones...

Keep in mind that there are a couple types of huckleberries, the ones I grew up eating in NW Washington were small red berries that were kinda translucent like the pic below - they are pretty tart but taste really good

Here in NW Montana, they've never seen a red huckleberry like those - the ones here are closer in appearance to a blueberry but smaller and they are tart (when fresh) and taste kinda like a tart blueberry, but not quite... they look more like the pic below. Usually in the fall you can buy them for about $26 per gallon container - I'm thinking if you do find dried hucks, they will prolly be this kind.

Edit: Forgot to mention - Around here in the summer (tourists) you'll find huckleberry flavored everything, from beer to chocolates, ice cream, shakes, bread, soda, soap, lip balm, lotion... you name it - so there must be some source for dried hucks or at least extracts/concentrates...

For syrups/jams you can try these folks - they are about 15 miles north of me in Hungry Horse... drive by them at least a couple times a month - if you need me to pick something up and ship it, just let me know! - http://www.huckleberrypatch.com/

They've got farking everything!! http://www.huckleberrypatch.com/index.php?main_page=products_all&disp_order=8&page=1

My young-un years in Wash plays something like a Johnny Cash song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmFN9C9PVpg)...

PM on it's way... This is the kinder, gentler, less hijacking knucklhed :heh:
