I've used it, thought about making a new rub with it but it's costly and already been done. :thumb:

I've read of rubs having honey powder, and worster powder too, for that matter, but I'd think they'd be a little costly. I'd say that it might help gain an edge in competition, but don't most competitors glaze and/or foil w/ a little honey, anyway?
What do I know, though? I'm just a backyard bbq-er.

If the UNsaid rub has MSG in it, I wouldn't be interested anyway. Besides, after seeing the cost of all the rubs up at Bass Pro Shop, I'm definately saving by making my own.

Check out the products from Butcher BBQ. David has great products, and is one of the nicest people I've ever met. His larger brother Martin didn't make me say that, either:wink:

I got this from the site I buy my spices for my rubs:
Description: Honey Power
Origin:United States
Uses: Culinary, Soapmaking
Package Size: 1 Lb
Volume:Approx. 3 cups
Comments: Used primarily in baking, soaps, etc. Does not retain full honey flavor; tastes like a milk, starchy powdered-sugar.
Ingredients: Natural Honey, Maltodextrin
Never used it myself though... thought about it many times
Cheers

I've played around with it a few times and just didn't get the "wow" factor I was after...this was the one I used.

Without giving everything away....it's a great, subtle, underlying flavor. I wouldn't count on it to make the dish over the top good, but as a compliment...it works GREAT. That's my take on honey powder, and not the product I mentioned earlier.

I like it. I don't know what to say other than that. It is pricey, and not something I use a whole lot because of that...but it is quite nice. Flavorwise...it is something that can easily get lost among other things, but it's still good. If you just want it for a slightly sweeter alternative to sugar, you can do better for less. If you want honey flavor, this is the only option really.

Initially it sounds excellent. After hearing it doesn't have a very pronounced flavor, I couldn't justify spending the extra money on it. There has to be a better alternative.

My expectations were probably too high since that was what I was shooting for.

ive wanted to get some honey powder, worsey powder, and some horseraddish powder for a long time. I just never pulled the trigger on doing it..One day I guess I will have to buck up and do it.

I am considering doing a spinkle on meats when setting sauce at comps. However, there will be practice involved prior.

I saw some in a local Asian Market in bulk bags, it was spendy and I'm not a big make my own rub guy, but I am a big fan of Butcher BBQ Honey Rub.

I've used it in some rubs that I was experimenting with and as others have said it is pricey and does not add much in the wow factor.
Real honey in a mop or glaze is way more flavorful than honey powder in a rub. I've used it in a sour cream frosting for some carrot cake and that was delicious.

Are you guys wanting a honey flavor to jump out and bite you or just enough to compliment the meat? I think the honey powder most talking about here, used correctly won't jump out and explode, but it will give you a great flavor after you finish a bite. I think like Jorge said earlier, when used with some other stuff it will allow the flavor to come out more.

I used it a few times and was not impressed. Maybe it's me but I'll stick to my brown sugar.
