Has anyone else found concrete in Royal Oak lump? Just burned my first bag of it and had concrete in my grate the next morning.

What up with that?

Concrete, insulation and metal scrap, pretty normal. Still a good lump!

I am starting a small gravel path with what I have dumped out of my fire basket!
Seems like it takes a little more through out the cook too, might be due to the weight of the rocks taking wood out of the bag.

Rocks are cheaper than lump and weigh more.

Kinda reminds me of Charlie Brown:

"Hey, I got a piece of oak"

"And I got a piece of pecan"

"I got a rock"

seen it in Royal Oak and others. Probably shoveled off the ground.

Cowboy is the worst for that. But I have seen junk in RO too.

I feel it's getting worse. I never used to find anything out of the ordinary in my RO, maybe a small rock or something here and there. But the last 2 bags I used 1 had a huge piece of concrete and the other had some other big black rock in it and some fiberglass. I kept meaning to take pictures of the rocks but I think my wife threw them out.

The two pieces that were in my bag were big enough to block my gravity feed smoker. And wouldn't you know it, it was my first burn and I was trying to regulate the heat and get to know how it works:doh:

It didn't completely block it, but now I know why my burn wasn't as good as I thought it should be.

I'll know better tomorrow when I fire it up again. Think I'll go through the bag first!

Been using RO and have never found anything then wood. You might want to look at the back of the bag and see where it was manufactured. I get mine from Walmart and it is made in the USA. The product that is manufactured in Paraguay is rated real poor. The RO Resturant Depot here in NJ carries is from Paraguay.

Well, this is news to me!!!! Will check bag when I get home! My wal mart will not carry it. Have to push harder I think. Scott

A little extra mass like that helps stabilize temperatures... ;)

after many many years of using it i finally found a piece of cement and a piece of metal. both weigh about nothing. if you find a really big heavy piece contact them. sometimes they give you a free bag.
