I have SS 22.5" for the Performer and 2x18.5 SS for the WSM. Got them all from Weber directly. Easy cleanup even after having been allowed to sit awhile. I use them on the grill for anything that I don't care about sear marks, chicken, shrimp etc. Use cast iron grates for steaks, burgers for the high heat retention and sear marks.:thumb:

Is he still in business? I won a gift certificate from them at the Roc City team Casino night, and when I tried to use it I got a note back from his spouse saying he was in the hospital and unable to respond. That was in September, and there was no reply to a follow up note. Hope he is OK.

Maybe it's just me then.

I don't think they make the SS anymore. Back in August (the last time I got an answer from Brian), he sent this:

"Thanks for your interest in our products. We no longer make a stainless steel grate due to the problems with warping we have found when our users sear or cook over uneven heat. Our kettle grates are made from 3/16” steel and can be seasoned like cast iron. "

They still make them in 22.5" SS and recently reintroduced the 18.5" in SS with the hinged sides, (part #80730). The 22.5" SS is priced at $29.99 on their website. The price for the 18.5" SS hinged grate is $54.00!!! plus $7.00 shipping. Called Weber back after cust service had a chance to check with marketing and that is the actual price.

I bought a couple for my 18" & 22" kettles last year when they were comparable in price to the plated grates. No issues here.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel on any cast iron here in the Pacific Northwet!

I have CI grates on my Genesis and a CI insert for the Performer and no matter how much I use them, they rust and flake away. Even my Lodge Hibachi turns to rust! When they wear out I'm going to go Stainless steel.

I was talking about Huntingdon not carrying the SS anymore, not Weber.

I am bumping this thread, because I really want some OEM-style stainless steel cooking grates for my kettles, and am not finding what I want. I want what looks like a simple, standard Weber grate, but made out of stainless steel.

Is such a thing available?

I don't know what an OEM grate is, but here is the link to Weber's SS grate.

Those are OEM but they are not SS they are nickle plated.

The 22.5 hinged SS grate is indeed stainless steel. Call Weber and they will give assurances.

My bad, it even says SS in the description.

Do you clean it after you cook on it? I live on the Gulf of Mexico and everyone that I know that has the same problem cleans their grates after every cook. I don't clean until right before I light the grill and have not had a problem with rust.

You are doing it right. Leave the gunk on until the next cook. Get it up to temp and brush the grate. The fire sterilizes the grilling surface.

I called Weber's 800 number and ordered two 22.5" stainless grates for a total of $54, including shipping. $27 each delivered to my door seemed like a great deal.

The grates have been used many times in my UDS and they are wonderful. Easy cleanup and no rust. The ones I purchased do not have the flip up sides, but for the UDS I didn't need that feature anyway.
