Local store has a big beef sale going on. I have limited room in my freezer but want to "cash" in on the sale. I will be using a 22.5" kettle. I general cook offset with water pan above briquettes and another below the meat. 18 lb brisket or 3 spare ribs is about as much meat that I can fit comfortably (I think).

So with a limited budget and more importantly limited freezer space, what would you choose and why?

Inside Round $2.69
Sirloin Tip $2.69
Chucks $2.59
Tenderloin $9.99
Top Sirloin $3.79
New York strip loin $5.99
Short Loin $5.59
Ribeye $5.99
Bottom Flat $2.69
Eye of Round $3.19

I love me some Top Loin (New York) so I'd go with that, but Chuck is probably the most versatile, make shredded/pulled beef, chop up for tacos/burritos/pizza, chunk for stew, etc.

I don't see any tri-tip there @ $2.77/lb. ...:D

Is this a trick question? Sounds like a math problem. What is the cubic ft. of your freezer?

Is this a trick question? Sounds like a math problem. What is the cubic ft. of your freezer? Does not matter as it will soon be full with bambi's dad. :whoo:

I might have room for two chucks, especially after I buy some pork (BB and spares).

Ribeye cause that's my favorite cut. Then chuck. As far as I know short loin is close to tenderloin so seems like a good price. The flat is a a brisket so that'd be good, but then aside from the sirloin (not my favorite for steaks) and tenderloin, the rest is stewing, braising or potroast meat.

Ribeye and chucks. Can't beat a ribroast, and the pulled beef from a chuck is SO good.

I think the bottom flat is actually a bottom flat round, which would not be a brisket being from the rear, right? I am assume it would be lean too.

You may be right. Haven't heard of a bottom flat so assumed it was a brisket flat. I'll stick with ribeyes and chucks.

Buy it all & maybe they'll throw in some free freezer space??? WOW, what ever happened to those good ol' days?? Or you could pick up another freezer & expand your horizons?? :thumb: I just hate limitations!! Cheers!!!

Same here on the rib eyes for the steaks, and chucks cause you can do a lot of different things with them.

This is like one of those questions, if you could be any animal in the kingdom what would you pick and why?

Myself, I would pick the Ribeye and the tenderloin... Now, that's good eats.

I'd go with Ribeyes and chuckies. However, around my parts we have chuckies onsale for $1.99 per pound on a regular basis. But, $5.99 per pound for Ribeyes is a pretty good deal.

Ribeyes are really good grilled (my favorite along with flat irons); chuckies are good BBQ'd.

Well ended up buy a small chuck (24 lbs was the smallest I could find). Along with a twin pack of butts.

:clap2:
Thanks to all for the help.

PS thirdeye, I asked the butcher assistant about the round flat, it is from the hind leg area and has several of the round steak cuts (he rattled them off, the only one I know for sure was top round).

U done good! When the price is right, I buy bone-in rib-eyes. Gawd! They're awful good! My GF likes NY Strip Steaks, but we live in a "beef capital" where good cuts r plentiful & relatively inexpensive.

Ribeye and chuck is spot on. HOWEVER, ask him for a rate on hanger steak as well. Some yahoos call it petite steak for some reason.
