Today has been a blur of company, open houses and a rush job to smoke a 17# spatchcock turkey on the BGE.
Cooked it direct at 400 degrees, figured about 3 to 4 hours max.

Lesson learned, too big a bird to cook direct, I accidently overcooked the bird, reached 190 plus in the thighs.
Part of the meat stuck to the grate but very tasty and moist.
The skin looks burnt but crispy, meat was fine.
If I had cooked it indirect I am positive it would have been more photogenic for the folks here.

I have done 8 # chickens direct and they turned out picture perfect before.

Nothing wrong I see bro… That would be nice on a ciabatta roll add some havarti and a nice home grown mater. Mmmm indeed.

Looks good to me. I'm thinkin of doin a turkey in the next couple of weeks. 400* direct sounds like a southern microwave :-D
