Has anyone used part of a drum to make a smoker ring for their weber kettle similiar to the Cajun Bandit or Smoke E-Z? I have two weber kettles now and two spare drums. I was thinking of maybe using one of the drums and cutting the middle section out to make like a 24" extention ring that I could put on my weber kettle if I wanted to use it as a smoker. I think I remember other people doing it, but I wasn't able to find anything with the search function. Some pictures would be nice.

Thanks,
Patrick

I think this is a great idea. Like turning your 22.5" weber kettle into a redneck WSM. Just cut the legs down, cut off the top and bottom of the drum, and put a bunch of grill levels inside! I'm gonna take your idea and make one from the parts I got!

I'll tell you what...if you found a drum that fit good then this idea is MONEY!

I knew Norco would have something whipped up. I was thinking just the middle section of the drum. Maybe cut just below and just above the middle section where it bends out. Maybe If I have time and see what I can rig up this weekend. I don't really have the proper tools for cutting a drum so I'll have to see what I can come up with.

Yep. but not a Weber Kettle. The base unit was manufactured by Masterbuilt.

Pics look very functional and the ideas are very interesting. How well do they cook?

Mark - what part of the drum did you cut out? From the pics it looks like the top. Does it cook well as a smoker?

Yeah; that one was the top (or bottom turned upside-down) 1/3 of a drum. I've also got one that fits my UDS:

Do a web search for "Weber Magnum Smoker". I believe it is what you're looking for, I've got one and really like it. Detailed plans are available on another web site, if you'd like to PM me I will send you the link.
