:confused:Hi Fellow Farkers!!! I am in the process of locating a Steel Drum that I could use to make my first UDS, and or Ugly Drum Smoker....I am surrounded by Contracting Companies, and Oil Companies....I recently visited a Contracting Company that had numerous 55 Gallon Drums in the back of it's building....When I went in to ask the guy about buying one he said that those Drums housed Brick Wash Chemicals, and other cleaning chemicals....Well I guess my question to you guys would be...Would it be safe for this Ole Boy to use them, or can i burn these chemicals off!!!!Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!:thumb:Thanx in Advance!! Some will say you can burn them out, others will disagree...
I say better safe than sorry when it comes to something that you're cooking your food with. Is it worth the risk?

Check with the oil companies and see what they have.:thumb:
If you burn it out and get it hot enough I can't see how there will be anything left to hurt you.

I played it extra safe and found brand new drums. I was fortunate enough to have a local company that makes them. I personally would never make a drum that had anything not food safe housed, but thats me. People have done it with success. In the end, its your call.

I wouldn't risk my family and friends health on "Brick Wash Chemicals, and other cleaning chemicals". :twitch::tsk: Keep searching and good luck on the build.

Seach for a local oil supplier. Ask them for any food grade oil drums or simply mineral oil drums...
Check with local animal feed stores, bakeries or food processing places.
