Hey all,
I plan on purchasing a lg BGE this week, but I just read that you have to buy the daisy wheel as an eggessory, what exactly comes on the BGE to control the airflow on top....I can't find any pics online anywhere of the Egg as is sold in store. Also, What other Eggessories are a must have for the Egg. Please Help...

Mine came with the Daisy wheel last spring. Also a Bag of BGE charcoal, Nest and fire starters.
Get a Platesetter! mandatory for indirect cooking.
Edit: There are some other things like a wiggle rod, grate lifter and ash tool. I need to get these too.

The first thing i would recommend is a plate setter for indirect and low and slow cooks.
A pizza stone is also a really good addition. A ThirdHand grill lifter also comes in handy.

Nonsense, the Dual Function Metal Top is included. You'll need to buy or build a nest or table for your Egg and I'd highly recommend buying a platesetter. That will get you started and you can buy other Eggcessories as you go. Go to www.biggreenegg.com and enter your zip code to find the dealers near you.

also consider the accessories from www.ceramicgrillstore.com (http://www.ceramicgrillstore.com)
you can buy their set up with pizza stones for more versatility instead of the platesetter.

Like several have said, it comes with the DFMT.
I'll second Vinny's motion on the ceramicgrillstore.com stuff. I have the spider ring for my pizza stone and an adjustable rack. Very handy and very versatile. I used both tonight for some chicken. :mod:
Yep - you should get the daisy wheel with the Egg. I would say get the plate setter and the pizza stone, I also have the spider and the adjustable rig and like them, but for cooking pizza I like the pizza stone ontop of the plate setter.
Good luck with your new cooker!

That's awesome guys....Appreciate your help...I thought that it would come with the metal top, but I swear I read somewhere tonight that it was an extra. :thumb:

My dealer did it right, they set a higher price point but included everything except the table. I got the DFMT, grid lifter, plate setter, stir tool, and thermometer as "standard" which in my opinion, area all essentials to operating the Egg.

The thermometer is included as well.

I think the Daisy Wheel you saw is a new and improved version with increments of measurement,, yours will come with all you need.

Get a Third Hand grate lifter. One of the best tools for the egg.

Personally, I control the temps with the bottom draft door while leaving the dual function vent open. I don't understand why they even have the daisy wheel.

yeah....not too many BGE fests up here...I'm Hitting ME/NH this week to get my BGE actually though, It's about half the cost of what it is here in the North.

Daisy Wheel included. Definately get the Plate setter. It is pretty much a must have. Wait a few months to review the Ceramic Grill Store Offerings.

Mine included the nest as well. A cast iron grate is a nice addition as well. Oh, you need some good Lump and DO NOT use lighter Fluid. Do several low temp cooks 225º-300º to set the gasket. I would do a dozen just to learn and help the gasket out.

Platesetter is over rated IMHO, get the adjustable rig, spider and pizza stone from Ceramic Grill Store and you are set. My egg came with the platesetter and have used it once in the past year, apply your dollars for other accessories.

First off, you need a table or nest, otherwise you are cooking on the ground. :) Second, you need a place setter. The other thing I bought for my XL was the extender, it allows me to get more meat in the egg. Have fun!

I've had my LBGE for 3 years, all I need is Platesetter, pizza stone, and a raised grid that I made from a 17-in Webber grid and 4SS bolts. I bake pizzas @650*,bake bread at 450* sear stakes at 700*, roast chicken 375*, low and slow 215*, smoke cheese at 75* and I also have a DigiQ11, ET-73, and a Thermapen that's all you really need for an Egg:cool:

The platesetter is the single best heat sink you can use on an egg.
Get an ET-73 and something to lift the grate and that's all you really need.

Yep, platesetter is a must for smoking and indirect grilling.
The other thing is that after closing the bottom draft door, replacing the daisy wheel with the rain cap will kill the fire quickly to conserve charcoal. Apparently some air still gets in with the daisy wheel, enough to keep the fire smoldering a little longer.

Since you have the original and CI grid, you can sandwhich some firebricks in between them for a makeshift plate setter. Or a Pizza stone, terra cotta plant base, drip pan, cast iron griddle, etc
I would call the dealer back and tell him to get you a PS in ASAP, and that he is paying the freight. It is the most common Eggcessory and his stock shold never run out...IMO. :becky:
